October 3rd:

A QUICK UPDATE
I hope you’ve been enjoying the things that I’m loving and learning every couple of weeks. Once I get my act together, I’ll start sharing these updates more frequently but right now, I’m working on getting into a new groove and trying to figure out where I want to focus my energy.

I’m undergoing some major and unexpected changes in my life. During these times of transition, especially those that I didn’t ask for, I tend to start questioning everything that I’m doing and wondering if it’s “right.”  Typically, I make big claims…”I’m moving!” “I’m starting XYZ idea” that rarely come to fruition. I end up feeling disappointed that I don’t deliver on the claims that I stake and circle back to the place I started.

Instead of taking action and jumping to conclusions, I’m working on being more mindful and intentional with my decisions and choices. This has included a lot of reflection, journaling, and exercise that are helping me define my core values and what I want from life. It also includes seeing a therapist. I’ve only been twice, but so far, I can tell this is long overdue.

AN EXERCISE IN GOAL SETTING
Another exericise that I saw and loved was this one on Camille Styles, one of my favorite lifestyle bloggers. The exercise challenges you to write a bio for your future self so you can step outside your day-to-day, something that is all too difficult to do to understand what you want, desire, and need and ensure you’re taking the steps and spending your time in ways that will help you get there. It reminded me of this podcast episode with Erica Gellerman.

THE NEWEST EPISODE OF HOW WE’LL LIVE
Speaking of podcast episodes, don’t miss the most recent episode with Dr. Shannon Chavez a sex therapist who I aboslutely LOVED. I have a lot of shame around sex…I think it all started with a really big experience and some not so good ones that have followed. She says

“Humans are relational and sensual beings. We all have needs for love, affection, and sexual intimacy. These needs should not be ignored or abused; instead, we should seek to understand and fulfill them in healthy, appropriate ways. Sexual health is a critical component of overall health and well-being, so chances are if you aren’t functioning properly or sexually fulfilled, other areas of your life are being affected as well (or vice versa).”

AN ARTICLE ON GUT HEALTH

I nerd out over gut health and loved this peice in the NYT. If you haven’t started thinking about your gut health, it’s worth a look. They call the gut the second brain and studies have shown it holds 70% of our immune systems!

JAM SESSION WITH THE LUMINEERS NEW ALBUM
I love The Lumineers. I saw them live a few years ago, and it was an incredible concert — even in the massive venue that is MSG, they managed to be amazing. Listen to their new album for some of their old flavors + some new ones.

HEALTHY SKIN TOXIN FREE
I had never spent a lot of time focusing on my skincare routine — until I noticed nasty forehead wrinkles. Hello 30’s! But I am trying to be more mindful about what I put in AND on my body. Luckily, I found this product from MyChelle that’s not only affordable but approved by the Environmental Working Group who conduct studies to determine which products we should be using. They’re my go-to resource for products & food. I’ve been using MyChelle for over 3 years, and won’t stop.
